Logo Branding Methods Compared: Screen Print, UV, Laser, DTF and Embroidery
Match the method to the material and the logo. Laser engraving gives a permanent tone-on-tone mark on metal, wood and bamboo. Screen printing suits flat logos with one or a few colours. UV / digital print handles full colour and gradients on hard surfaces. DTF and embroidery are for fabric. We confirm the right method for each product with your quote.
The five methods at a glance
| Method | Best on | Look | Choose it when |
|---|---|---|---|
| Screen printing | Bags, fabric, many hard surfaces | Flat, bold colour | Your logo has one or a few solid colours |
| UV / digital print | Hard, flat surfaces such as plastic, metal, wood and acrylic | Full colour, fine detail | Your logo has many colours, gradients or a photo |
| Laser engraving | Metal, wood, bamboo | Permanent, tone-on-tone | You want an understated, premium mark that won't rub off |
| DTF printing | Fabric and textiles | Full colour transfer | You need a detailed, colourful logo on fabric |
| Embroidery | Fabric, caps, bags | Stitched, textured | You want a premium, tactile finish on fabric |

Each method in more detail
Screen printing
Ink is pushed through a fine mesh stencil, one colour at a time. It gives solid, opaque colour and is a dependable choice for bags, fabric and many hard items. It works best when the logo has one or a few flat colours; each extra colour adds a step.
UV / digital print
The design is printed directly onto the item and cured with UV light. It reproduces full-colour logos, gradients and fine detail on hard, flat surfaces such as plastic, metal, wood and acrylic, which makes it the usual choice when a multi-colour logo must look exactly like the brand guide.
Laser engraving
A laser marks the surface of the material itself, so there is no ink to wear off. The result is a subtle, tone-on-tone mark on wood and bamboo, and a clean contrasting mark on coated metal. It is single-colour by nature, so use a one-colour version of your logo.
DTF printing
Direct-to-film printing transfers a full-colour design printed on film onto fabric with heat and pressure. It handles detailed, colourful logos on textiles where screen printing would need many colours.
Embroidery
The logo is stitched into the fabric with thread. It gives a raised, textured, premium look on fabric, caps and soft bags. Very fine detail and small text are simplified so they stitch cleanly.
Choose a method in three questions
- What is the material? Fabric points to DTF, embroidery or screen printing; metal, wood and bamboo to laser engraving; plastic and other hard surfaces to UV or screen printing.
- How many colours is your logo? One or two flat colours: screen printing or laser. Many colours or gradients: UV / digital or DTF.
- What feel do you want? Understated and permanent: laser. Bold and colourful: print. Textured and premium on fabric: embroidery.
Getting your artwork right
- Send a vector logo (AI, EPS, SVG or PDF) where possible
- Share brand colour codes if the colours must match exactly
- Use a one-colour version of your logo for engraving and single-colour printing
- Avoid very thin lines and very small text, which may not reproduce well on small items
- Approve the artwork proof before production
Where to place your logo on common gifts
| Notebooks and diaries | Front cover, centred or lower corner. A debossed or printed logo is seen every time the notebook is used. |
|---|---|
| Pens | Along the barrel or on the clip, kept short: a wordmark or icon reads better than a full logo with tagline. |
| Desk stands and organisers | On the base or the front plate, facing the user. |
| Bottles, mugs and cups | On the side that faces out when held in the right hand. |
| Keychains | On the flat face; double-sided items can carry a logo on one side and a short message on the other. |
| Clocks, frames and plaques | On the dial, the front panel or the plate, where it sits at eye level. |
Common branding mistakes
- Using a full-colour logo where one colour is needed. Keep a one-colour version ready for engraving and single-colour print.
- Logo too large. A smaller, well-placed mark looks more premium than one that fills the surface.
- Low-resolution files. Screenshots and web images blur when printed; send the original artwork.
- Skipping the proof. Always check spelling, colours and placement on the proof before production.
Consistency across a gift set
When one order mixes materials (a metal pen, a PU notebook, a bamboo stand), each item is branded with the method that suits it, using the same artwork. The result reads as one kit even though the techniques differ. See the welcome kit guide for kit ideas.

Frequently asked questions
Which logo printing method lasts longest?
Laser engraving is permanent because it marks the material itself, which is why it is popular on metal, wood and bamboo. Printed methods last well with normal use; we recommend the method for each product with your quote.
Can a logo with many colours or a gradient be printed?
Yes, with UV / digital printing on hard surfaces, or DTF on fabric. Screen printing suits logos with one or a few flat colours.
What file should I send for branding?
A vector file (AI, EPS, SVG or PDF) works best. A clear, high-resolution PNG can also work. Mention any brand colour codes you need matched.
Can different products in one order use different methods?
Yes. Each product is branded with the method that suits its material, using the same logo artwork so the set looks consistent.
Is there a minimum quantity for branding?
Most products in our range are priced from 1 piece. Some state a minimum for branded orders (for example 100 or 200 pieces); the product page shows it.
Can you match our exact brand colours?
Share your colour codes with your logo. We confirm what is achievable for the product and method with your quote, and you approve the proof before production.
